Earlier in 2025 I was in a creative slump. To get myself working and excited about photography again I join my Finding the Red Thread workshop. In this workshop we each chose a short prompt that acts as a creative roadmap and limitation. I chose “duo” as my prompt. My thinking was to create a series of images around popular hero / villains as well as couples or even hero’s and their sidekicks. Pop culture has many great examples of interesting ‘duos’ to work with. And because I’m me, I was going to do them in boats or around water.
Well my project took a hard right turn around week three when I placed Batman on a bike. I went from a project that I couldn’t quiet get my head around to images flowing naturally out of my head and into my camera. My final presentation for the workshop (which you can watch here) morphed into a 2026 calendar.
My personal goal was to create a series of images that connected my adult self to the fun and freedom of my childhood years. When my bike was the key to a sense of freedom, possibility and adventure. Each image was chosen with care to evoke the magic world of childhood when anything feels possible.
