From death to rebirth, from rags to riches, character archetypes tell the story of the human experience. They’re an essential tool to crafting compelling narratives.
We'll explore
Carl Jung identified 12 major archetypes that define the human experience. They’re found across cultures in myths, dreams, fairy tales and our daily lives. They originate deep in our psyches and shape our perceptions, behaviors and relationships.
Some archetypes include the caregiver or the explorer, the rebel or the jester. You can imagine how understanding character archetypes can enhance your toy photography by connecting to the universal human experience, our repressed emotions, our desires, our fears.
Each week we’ll explore a specific archetype using 2–3 different frameworks for image creation. You’ll finish with six images that tell a story of change and transformation.
PERSONAL ENRICHMENT
Character archetypes are the foundation of every great story. If you enjoy The Hero’s Journey or a classic Rags to Riches tale, then you’re already familiar with character archetypes. This workshop will help you understand:
- What are the 12 basic character archetypes
- How to use these archetypes to further personal storytelling
- How to create a story arc through a character archetype transformation
